Simple & healthy fermented Berry Coulis

Blueberry Coulis – Fermented

This 750 ml jar was filled with two cups of blueberries.  Overnight they shrank to 1/4 of the jar!  Yet look at the juice.  I can’t wait to open the lid soon to blend into a coulis.  One can use blueberries, blackberries, raspberries or strawberries.  Berries are great sources of fiber, a nutrient important for a healthy digestive system.  I have just learned that in addition to being good for the heart, berries may be good for bone health!

I chose to try blueberries as they are packed with antioxidants and I have heard they support keeping one’s memory sharp in aging.

Generally I add berries to a smoothie, however finding this recipe is exciting as it will increase the berries nutrients through the fermentation process, and improve gut health and reduce inflammation.

Recipe

Equipment:

  • Mason Jar
  • Fermenting lid or cheesecloth & an elastic
  • Weights

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups mixed berries of your choice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • ½ teaspoon packaged starter culture  or 2 tablespoons fresh whey
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

Process:

Pack two cups of berries in mason jar and press down with weight.  Set aside.  Add remaining ingredients into bowl to mix.  Pour over berries ensuring they are covered.  Cover top of jar and set aside for 1 to 2 days in cool space out of direct light.

After a couple of days strain the juice from the berries keeping both ingredients.  Blend the berries and slowly add juice back in to reach the consistency you want.

Story coulis in your favourite container in the fridge.  Will last for up to two months.

The guided patterns Awareness through Movement® lessons can take one from the external experience into the internal one.  It is unlike any types of movement this writer has experienced from dance, fitness programs, Yoga, Pilates, and more.  The experience has been a fuller integration of the senses, emotions, feelings and spaciousness from thoughts.  The guided pattern of movement immediately focuses one attention that. for this writer, creates spaciousness similar to the experience after long periods of sitting meditation.

Moshe Feldenkrais explored many development movement patterns that are learned by us as babies in order to evolve from being held to intentionally rolling, sitting, standing, talking, talking, thinking, speaking, and living fully.

Another important aspect of these Awareness through Movement® lessons has been the effects on clarity of mind and the calming of emotions and feelings.  The feelings stimulated by thinking are reduced by the increase in flexibility.  A quote of Moshes was, “Flexible body, flexible mind.’   

Awareness through Movement® organically calms emotions and feelings by increasing one’s level of tolerance to circumstances and environment.  This increase in tolerance can enable one to increase their capacity for peace and deeper insight moment to moment in tune to balanced 6th and 7th chakras.

 

 

 

Like diet these emotional grouping in the above pictures can be eased by Awareness through Movement® Lessons that focus on ones head in space and how it is fully supported by the structure of ones body in rotation that includes the eyes, ears, mouth, tongue, cheeks, etc.

All guided Awareness through Movement® Lessons, called ATM’s, would support the 6th & 7th Chakras as the intention of the patterns are designed to focus ones attention to specifically bring a state of experiencing each moment using the movement itself.  In meditation one is taken into a practice of following the breath or imagery while Feldenkrais® takes one into the focused experience of their personal action from the inside out.

Try this example experience of 7 steps to get in touch with your somatic awareness capabilities:

  1.  Either in sitting or standing rotate your head quietly to the left and right.  Only go as far as comfortable with no strain.
  2.  Repeat 3 or 4 times and simply notice the quality of your head rotation.
  3.  Pause for 10 or so breathes in and exhalations out.
  4.  Now bend you right elbow and bring your right hand to the top of your head and touch your finger tips only to your crown.  Your hand will create a cone shape.  In this new starting position rotate your head quietly to the left and right.  Only go as far as comfortable with no strain.
  5. Repeat 3 or 4 times and simply notice the quality of your head rotation.  With this new hand and arm position, do you feel your rotate any differently?  Where is your attention being drawn to now?
  6.  Pause for 10 or so breathes in and exhalations out.
  7.  Come back to simply rotating your head left and right in either your standing or sitting position.  Has anything changed?  Are you more aware of your head in space?

This is a small example of waking up to conscious awareness through movement that is available when participating in the Feldenkrais® Method of Somatic experiencing.  In this example that brings focus to ones crown through movement patterns, one can increase their rotation without contrived movement.  The hand and arm configuration creates a rotation through the torso organically that hasn’t been mentioned in the pattern making it an organic movement.  This creates  a fuller integrative experience through the nervous system that isn’t available through simply being told via an action.

Instagram follower shares exciting anti-aging techniques using: Butterfly Pea

This flower has anti-oxidants that are great for anti-aging.  After posting a picture of Butterfly Tea yesterday, an instagram follower shared  anti-aging mask ingredients.  I couldn’t find a recipe so I have been experimenting this morning.

This is the one that has worked the best for me.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons Agar Agar Powder (thickening agent)
  • 1 to 2 tablespoon or tea bag of  Dried or Fresh Butterfly Flowers
  • 3/4 Cup Hot Water

As you can see in this picture I used my favorite tea cup from the Empress Hotel here in Victoria.  It would hold 3/4 of a cup of water.

I used hot water from tea kettle and infused whole dried butterfly flowers in a cup. After a number of minutes I strained and added Agar Agar powder slowly while stirring until the consistency felt right.  It was heavier to stir with the spoon.

I found that the mixture needed to be cool enough to apply thickly to your face.  If you apply it when it is too warm it isn’t thick enough to stick.  Wait a number of minutes and then apply.  Apply by letting it pour downwards from a brush or make up wedge over your face leaning over a sink. By letting it pour downwards you are getting a thicker mask and more coverage.

Leave on for 20 or more minutes.  It cools into a gelatin and should peel off easily!DSC_0862

On my face I noticed a difference after 3 or 4 minutes.  The first thing I felt was that my skin became incredibly alive with a cool and refreshing feeling.  It was like my skin on my face was waking up!  The second thing I noticed was a tightening!  The third is my skin began to feel like it was radiating!

After taking off the mask I noticed my skin was a lighter colour.  The age spot that is growing on my check that I have been experimenting with to either reduce it or diminish the colour was lighter.  Two moles have become lighter.  I wasn’t expecting this.  I also had dark bags under my eyes due to a current Tumeric/Black Pepper detox I am currently undertaking and I believe the deep yellow colour was diminished.  I added more mask under my eyes and on the age spot.   Removing it a second time, the spot it lighter and the yellow is missing under my eyes! I am now experimenting with the age spots on my hands that have begun appearing!  Will keep you updated.

I personally would repeat this and will explore a combination of plants to infuse with it.   I so look forward to germinating the seeds I was gifted, growing and harvesting these amazing flower vines myself! This is a plant for my Medicine Garden!
